Couples Therapy & Hold Me Tight® Experiences

For couples who want a safer, more connected, more emotionally secure relationship.

At Uncomfortably Comfy, we help couples move out of stuck, painful patterns and into connection that actually feels good to be in. Alongside ongoing couples therapy, we offer:

  • Hold Me Tight® workshops (in person & virtual)

  • Between-session virtual couples trainings (more information coming 2026)

  • 4-hour and weekend couples intensives

These experiences are deeply rooted in Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), developed by Dr. Sue Johnson, and are designed to help you build and protect your emotional bond—not just fight better.

What Is Hold Me Tight® Workshop?

Hold Me Tight® Workshops: A structured, supportive way to reconnect

Hold Me Tight® workshops are experiential couples workshops rooted in Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT)—an evidence-based approach that helps partners understand the patterns that keep them stuck and build the kind of emotional safety that creates lasting closeness.

Rather than “talking about problems” in the abstract, you’ll learn a clear, step-by-step framework for how disconnection happens and how to repair it—with guided exercises that help you practice new ways of reaching for each other.

You don’t need to be in crisis to benefit. Many couples come because they want to feel more connected, communicate more clearly, or stop repeating the same painful cycle.

The Science Behind EFT

  • Research shows EFT has an impressive 70–75% success rate in helping distressed couples move into secure, lasting connection.

  • EFT is recognized by the American Psychological Association as an evidence-based, validated treatment for couples.

  • Couples not only improve during therapy—they often maintain or deepen those gains over time.

By participating in Hold Me Tight®, you’re not just having “a nice weekend.” You’re learning skills rooted in decades of research to:

  • Navigate big emotions

  • Repair disconnection

  • Create more secure, resilient partnership

What you and your partner will do in the workshop

In this workshop, you’ll be guided to:

Map your “negative dance”—the pattern you fall into when you’re hurt, overwhelmed, or scared

Identify what’s underneath anger, shutdown, criticism, or distance (the emotions and needs that rarely get said out loud)

Practice softer, clearer ways of reaching that invite closeness instead of defensiveness

Learn repair moves after conflict and begin healing old injuries

Have structured private partner conversations, with therapist guidance and support

This is ideal if you want deep work in a structured format—and you’re open to learning alongside other couples who are working on similar goals (while keeping your own conversations private).t

Who this is for

Hold Me Tight® workshops can be a strong fit if you’re:

Caught in repeating arguments or long silences

Struggling to feel understood, chosen, or emotionally close

Trying to rebuild trust after a rupture (emotional or relational)

Wanting better conflict repair and more secure connection

Not sure if it’s the right fit? The questionnaire below helps us screen for fit, safety, and support needs before enrolling.

Important note: Workshops are not appropriate when there is current physical violence, coercive control, or ongoing affairs that are not yet stabilized. If any of that is part of your story, we’ll recommend the safest next step and the right level of support.

How to Choose: Workshop, Intensive, or Virtual Support

We know deciding how to get help for your relationship can feel overwhelming. Below is a clear, compassionate guide to help you choose the option that best fits your needs, timing, and level of distress.

Quick overview

  • Hold Me Tight® Workshop — Best for couples wanting a structured, research-based roadmap to deepen connection and learn how their attachment patterns show up.

  • 4‑Hour Intensive — Best for couples who want focused, practical help on one specific stuck point or recurring pattern.

  • Weekend Intensive — Best for couples in high distress, facing betrayal, or wanting a substantial, concentrated reset.

  • Virtual Workshops & Between‑Session Trainings (available Jan 2026) — Best for ongoing, skills‑based support that fits into busy schedules and complements in-person work.

Which to pick based on where you are

  • Curious and proactive (you want a framework and steady growth): Hold Me Tight® Workshop

    • What you get: Evidence-based structure, group learning, repeated practice of key conversations, psychoeducation about attachment and emotion cycles.

    • Ideal outcomes: Better understanding of how you both get triggered, clearer patterns, improved emotional safety, and new ways to have corrective experiences with your partner.

  • Stuck on a single issue (you know the problem but can’t move past it): 4‑Hour Intensive

    • What you get: Focused time with a clinician to map the cycle, practice repair, and leave with clear next steps and tools you can use at home.

    • Ideal outcomes: Targeted relief on a recurring fight, clearer boundaries, actionable communication strategies, and momentum toward change.

  • High distress or major rupture (infidelity, ongoing threat to relationship, or emotional flooding): Weekend Intensive

    • What you get: Extended, immersive work to stabilize the relationship, process high-intensity emotions safely, and begin rebuilding trust.

    • Ideal outcomes: Emotional stabilization, containment of crisis, a repair plan, and deeper shifts in how you relate under stress.

  • Need flexibility and ongoing skill building: Virtual Workshops & Between-Session Trainings

    • What you get: Shorter, skills-focused sessions you can attend from home, practice assignments, and booster modules that reinforce learning between in-person sessions.

    • Ideal outcomes: Improved day-to-day coping, steady skill acquisition, and support that adapts to your schedule and pace.

Practical considerations

  • Time and energy: Choose a workshop or virtual option if you have limited time. Choose an intensive if you can commit concentrated time and emotional energy.

  • Safety and stability: If there’s ongoing harm, violence, or severe emotional instability, connect with individual clinical support first so in-couple work is safe and effective.

  • Cost and insurance: Intensives may be a higher up‑front investment but can accelerate progress. Ask about sliding scale options and whether sessions are eligible for reimbursement or out‑of‑network benefits.

  • Readiness to do the work: All options require openness to noticing patterns, practicing new conversations, and doing between‑session work. If one partner isn’t ready, a consultation can help plan next steps.

Next step — let’s talk it through If you’re feeling stuck, anxious, overwhelmed, or disconnected, reaching out for a consultation is a brave, practical first step. We’ll listen to what’s happening, assess safety, and recommend the option (or combination) that best fits your goals and capacity. Starting January 2026, we also offer virtual workshops and between‑session trainings for ongoing, skills-based support.

To schedule a consultation or ask questions, contact our practice and we’ll respond with availability and clear next steps. We’re here to meet you where you are, help you feel safer in your body and your relationships, and support meaningful, manageable change.
