Hi, I’m Jennifer French MA, LMFT

Owner/Therapist

Welcome to Uncomfortably Comfy

Jennifer French (She/Her/Hers)

I’m a Marriage and Family Therapist with over 13 years of experience, and most of my work has been sitting with people in the real, in-between spaces of life. The moments where you’re not okay but still showing up, where you’re questioning everything, or just tired of holding it all together. That’s the work I’m drawn to. Not just what’s happening on the surface, but what’s underneath. What your nervous system has learned, how your experiences have shaped you, and what real, sustainable change can look like in your actual life.

Alongside my clinical work, I care deeply about supporting parents, families, and the broader community, especially within the neurodivergent space. As someone who is also neurodivergent, this isn’t just professional, it’s personal. I’m passionate about bringing awareness, practical tools, and honest conversations to a community that deserves to feel understood, supported, and empowered. I’ve been grateful to share more of this story and perspective through a recent feature in South Carolina Voyager’s Inspiring Stories series, which you can read here: https://southcarolinavoyager.com/interview/inspiring-conversations-with-jennifer-french-of-uncomfortably-comfy-couch-llc

My work is shaped by both lived experience and continued clinical training. Before private practice, I spent years in roles that deeply influenced how I understand people, behavior, and systems, including working as an addictions counselor, behavioral coach, educator, and spending over eight years in law enforcement. Those experiences gave me a deeper understanding of how trauma, stress, relationships, and environment shape the ways we cope and survive. They also taught me how to listen when words are hard to find, how to stay grounded in difficult moments, and how to see the person beyond the behavior.

I’m a therapist who loves learning and I take continuing education seriously because your care deserves that level of attention. Some of the trainings and approaches that continue to shape my work include:

  • Certified Synergetic Play Therapist

  • Certified Adult ADHD Specialist

  • Certified ILS Therapist

  • Certified Trauma Specialist

  • Trained in EMDR

  • Polyvagal Theory and nervous system regulation

  • Trauma-informed and attachment-based approaches

  • Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT)

  • Ongoing ADHD- and autism-informed training and consultation

I continue to engage in ADHD and autism-informed training and consultation to better support the communities I care deeply about. I’ve also recently completed my AAMFT Approved Supervisor designation and am beginning to integrate that into my practice, and I’m looking forward to supporting other therapists in a way that is grounded, evidence-based, and still very human, helping them build confidence, skill, and clarity while staying connected to the heart of their work.

Why I Work the Way I Do

I’m passionate about research, education, and constant growth not as a “professional identity,” but because it directly benefits the people I work with. I want you to feel that therapy is not just a place to talk, but a place to understand, to practice, and to build change you can actually live inside of.

Uncomfortably Comfy is named that way on purpose: growth can be uncomfortable, but it shouldn’t be lonely—or shaming. In sessions, you can expect a space that’s warm, honest, collaborative, and real. Messy is welcome. We start with what’s true, and we go from there—together.

My Life Outside of Work:

Outside of my professional commitments, I truly value spending quality time with my family and friends. I am deeply committed to self-care, healing, and personal growth, as I believe these are fundamental to achieving happiness and living authentically. My family and I embrace our neurodivergence, thriving in the unique perspectives it brings to our lives. I am passionate about supporting others in living authentically and embracing their true selves without the need to mask.

Life is a continuous journey, and I am a firm believer in evolving alongside it. As a wife and mother, I have firsthand experience with the joys and challenges of marriage and parenthood, and I approach these universal experiences with empathy and openness. Recognizing that struggles are part of these roles, I see them as opportunities for growth.

I enjoy morning runs along the beach, quiet moments with a good book, yoga, running, and cherish the joy of spending time with loved ones. You can often find me exploring the outdoors or traveling, eager to learn about new cultures and perspectives. I am committed to lifelong learning, always seeking the next opportunity to grow and expand my knowledge. As Jack Hewman once said, “Never stop learning;,for when we stop learning, we stop growing.”
