Why Group Therapy Works
At Uncomfortably Comfy, our therapy groups are designed to be warm, inclusive, and real. We bring together parents, teens, and adults—many of whom are neurodivergent—to learn practical skills, support each other, and celebrate wins in a safe, therapist-led space.
Group therapy isn’t “second best” to individual therapy—it’s a powerful, research-supported way to heal and grow. In group, people can:
Practice skills in real-time with others
Feel less alone and less “weird”
Get feedback and support from peers who actually get it
Build confidence in relationships and communication
Research shows that group therapy can be as effective as individual therapy for many concerns, including anxiety and depression, and is particularly helpful for building social and interpersonal skills. Meta-analyses have found that group cognitive-behavioral approaches reduce symptoms of anxiety and depression in both adults and youth, often with medium to large effect sizes.
Group therapy is also a great fit for neurodivergent folks (ADHD, autism, learning differences) who often benefit from structured skill-building, concrete tools, and affirming community with others who think and feel in similar ways.
Note: Exact group dates and times are coming soon. You can join the waitlist now to be the first to know when groups open.
What to Expect in Any Group
Small group size so everyone has space

Important note:
Group therapy at Uncomfortably Comfy is not a replacement for crisis services or higher levels of care. If you or your child/teen are in immediate danger, please call 988 (in the U.S.) or your local emergency number.

A supportive, practical group for teens navigating anxiety, overwhelm, ADHD-style struggles, and low mood
Some teens don’t need “more motivation.” They need tools that work with their nervous system—skills for when emotions spike, focus disappears, anxiety takes over, or everything feels like too much. This group offers a calm, supportive space where teens can build practical coping skills, strengthen confidence, and feel less alone.
This is a skills-forward therapy group that blends supportive discussion with real-life strategies teens can use right away—at school, at home, and in friendships.
What This Group Is
A small, supportive therapy group for teens who may be experiencing:
Anxiety, worry spirals, panic, or social stress
ADHD-style challenges (focus, procrastination, time management, overwhelm)
Emotional intensity, irritability, shutdown, or “meltdowns”
Low mood, burnout, or feeling stuck
Friendship conflict, rejection sensitivity, or communication struggles
Stress around school expectations and performance
Teens do not need a formal diagnosis to benefit. Many participants relate to more than one area (anxiety + attention + mood).
Skills We’ll Practice (What Makes This Group Different)
This group is designed to be practical and experiential, not just “talk therapy in a circle.” Each session includes:
Mindfulness skills to help teens notice what’s happening internally without getting hijacked by it
Emotion regulation tools (DBT-informed strategies) to manage big feelings and reduce impulsive reactions
Distress tolerance skills for high-stress moments (what to do when you can’t “think your way out”)
Coping strategies for attention + overwhelm (planning, prioritizing, task initiation, momentum-building)
Interpersonal and communication skills to navigate friendships, boundaries, conflict, and self-advocacy
Self-compassion + identity support to reduce shame and build confidence
We keep the tone warm and relatable—skills that feel usable, not preachy.
Format & Structure
Small group size to support safety and connection
Predictable session flow (teens like knowing what to expect)
A mix of brief teaching + practice + discussion
Optional between-session “try-it” tools (simple experiments, not homework-heavy)
