Uncomfortably Comfy Series Episode 1: What is Uncomfortably Comfy?
What Does "Uncomfortably Comfy" Mean?
You’ve probably experienced moments when you feel stuck, lost, or afraid of stepping into the unknown. It’s almost as though staying in the familiarity of relationships, parenting styles, or personal habits feels safer and in some regards it is. It is the way we learned to cope— even when those spaces are no longer serving you. That’s what we mean by being “uncomfortably comfortable.”
It’s a term I use frequently with my clients, and it refers to the tendency to cling to what we know simply because it’s familiar. This isn't just a behavioral pattern; it’s deeply rooted in how we’ve been shaped by our upbringing, our environment, our relationships, and the examples we’ve been given or not given.
